Reasons to Raise our Voices in Song

Newsletter masthead

The joyful sounds of the season are an especially fitting soundtrack for the final weeks of 2015, the 80th anniversary of The Upper Room daily devotional guide. It’s been a year when we have met our challenges with confidence, giving us reason to raise our voices in song.

In his new Upper Room book, Why This Jubilee?, author and pastor James Howell urges us to select a phrase from a beloved Christmas carol and reflect on it during Advent. As you will see in this newsletter, some favorite phrases came to mind as we looked back on the year.

When I hear the words, “O come, let us adore him,” I think of the millions who have found Christ and community through The Upper Room. Beginning with “the little book” in 1935, we have expanded over the years to offer devotional magazines and books for all ages, an intercessory prayer ministry, spiritual- life experiences for clergy and laity, and most recently, a swelling array of digital initiatives.

This growth and impact could not have happened without your prayers, your financial support, and the faithful readers and congregations who partner with us year after year. We are grateful for the ways YOU help us deliver a message of “Joy to the World.”

May you have a blessed Advent and a Merry Christmas full of song and jubilee.
