For Those in the Path of Hurricane Irma

As Hurricane—now storm—Irma continues its path inland, The Upper Room would like to share these words from the staff of The Academy for Spiritual Formation:

Dear Friends,

For those in the path of Hurricane Irma and for those who’ve already been affected by Irma’s force, our prayers are with you.

As you evacuate, as you watch water come close or seep in, as you go without electricity, as you stand in lines for food and water and ice, as you work to rebuild your lives and your communities, we continue to pray for shelter, for nourishment, for clothing, for friendship, for encouragement, for deep breaths, and for big love.

In your desperation and devastation, The Academy community is with you, and when it comes time to recover and repair, we will be with you then, too.

For those watching the news reports of Hurricane Irma from afar, we know it can be difficult to know how to respond and to know how to help. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) offers tangible ways to assist here.

To all those in the path of Hurricane Irma: We see you. We love you. You are not alone.
