An Invitation to Pray for our Nation on Election Day

3028

Today millions will cast their vote, selecting from an array of candidates – potential leaders who will impact the direction of the United States of America. The Upper Room Chapel and the Alone With God Prayer Room are open until 4:30 for visitors and staff who would like a time and place to pray.

We encourage you to pray as you feel led by the Holy Spirit. You are also invited to pray for the Church, the body of Christ, because “as the Church goes, so goes the nation.”

Invitation to Pray for:

Our Nation

  • Pray that the love, grace, and truth that is in Jesus Christ will become the foundation for our life together (John 1:14)
  • Pray for our judicial system and lawmakers, that justice for all, tempered by mercy and compassion, would guide our nation. (Isaiah 1:17)

The Election Process

  • Pray for a safe and fair election. (John 14:1)
  • Pray for every eligible voter to exercise their right to voter. (Prov. 4:6)

Candidates and Leaders

  • Pray for all those elected to lead our nation. Ask God to remove all envy and selfish ambition. (James 3:16)
  • Pray that their families will be protected from harm. (Psalm 9:9)
  • Ask the Lord to surround our elected officials with wise and godly advisors. (Prov. 1:7)
  • Pray that each candidate would focus on the issues we face as a nation and work for the common good. (1 Tim. 1:6)

The Church

  • Pray for a spirit of humility and an outreach in the Church toward those whom the Bible calls the least among us. (Psalm 9:18)
  • Pray that the churches in your community and area will preach the gospel of Christ powerfully.
  • Thank the Lord for the freedom we have and pray for wisdom. (Gal. 5:13)
  • Pray for a spirit of humility and holiness in every Church. (Joshua 3:5)
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to move all Christians to intensive prayer for our nation. (1 Tim. 2:8)
  • Ask the Lord to make the Church a strong prophetic voice for America. (Eph. 6:19)
  • Pray for a spirit of courage to rise within the Church. (1 Thess.1:6)

Media

  • Pray specifically for truth to be an established standard in our news media. (John 8:32)
  • Ask that Christianity will receive fair coverage in all reports. (1 Sam. 2:24)
