When Linda Bruner, marketing manager of Upper Room Books, attended the Apprentice Institute for Christian Spiritual Formation in early October, an unexpected visitor stopped by The Upper Room exhibit booth.
“You never know who you will encounter at a gathering…
While attending the Apprentice Institute Gathering in Wichita, Kansas at Friendship University I encountered a wonderful treat. A kind older gentleman approached our area with a curious smile and exploring eyes as he scanned the books presented on our table. As soon as he spotted a particular book, he picked it up, allowed an overwhelming smile to form on his lips and he let out a proud sigh as he looked me directly in the eyes and said ‘My daughter wrote this book!’ I could feel his fatherly pride as strong as a warm blanket from the moment he looked at me. He quickly revealed how the book A Bead and A Prayer by Kristen Vincent came to be, and that led into stories of his family history and ministry. As I listened to his stories I thanked God silently for the blessings of this gift to share a small piece of this father’s joy. Moments like this can be expressed, but are best experienced first hand. Take opportunities today to enjoy with others in their small joyful moments.”
