Stephane Brooks, Director of Emmaus ministries, along with Im Jung, Upper Room International Ministries staff and two Emmaus Regional Leaders (Cathi Eberly and Carl Westbrook) traveled to Seoul, Korea at the end of September for the first ever Asia Leadership Development Event along with The Upper Room daily devotional writers’ workshop.
There were 63 participants from Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapor, Taiwan, Russia, and The Philippines.
“The theme of the event was ‘Business Unusual,'” said Brooks, “and our time together provided food for thought in our approach to an integrated development of Upper Room Ministries leaders across Asia and throughout the world.”
This session was the fruit of 2 years of conversations between The Upper Room and the non-English speaking Emmaus ministries communities in Asia, and the gathering helped empower leaders of the various Emmaus communities in the region, develop a new group of writers for the daily devotional, cast a new vision of service by individual communities, network among Asian community leaders, and renew relationships between The Upper Room and our Asian partners in ministry.
Thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with ministry partners in Asia and encouraged by the prayers and support of Emmaus communities throughout the world, Brooks and Jung returned to The Upper Room headquarters in Nashville, TN energized for new work in the year ahead.
Stay tuned for more information about our Emmaus work in Asia and keep praying for our sisters and brothers who share the Good News of God’s love throughout the world!
